Program Overview
The Counselor in Training (CIT) program is a one-of-a-kind experience for seasoned Starfish campers to develop leadership skills and give back to the Starfish community. A supervised and structured experience, the CIT program is a blend of daily living skills, leadership development, and the camp fun we’re known for!
CITs will have the chance throughout the day to assist (and potentially lead) program areas for younger campers, participate in camp traditions, assist younger bunks during village time, and have structured breaks throughout the day. CITs will have a daily meeting which might include a debrief of the day, life-skills lessons such as cooking a meal together, or a fun team-building activity.
Participants will be living in Crescent Lodge, a dorm-style accommodation with multiple roommates. As with our main camp programs, Starfish staff members will always be with CITs and will be housed in their room and are present to provide guidance, instruction, and supervision. Participants may bring non-wifi enabled electronics such as tablets, handheld gaming consoles, and e-readers which may be accessed at specific times of day as appropriate.
Participants in our CIT program are willing to learn, eager to help, and above all, enthusiastically want to be at Camp Starfish. This is a selective, invite-only program for campers who have demonstrated the necessary maturity and responsibility during their time as campers and are actively excited by the opportunity to help at camp. The enrollment process will include an application to be filled out by the camper in addition to the standard guardian application, as well as a video interview with a director.
The CIT Experience
“His big win was really connecting with peers this year, better than any other year. He felt they had lots of common ground and could all be themselves.”
